Passion flower / Passiflora / Krishna Kamala

Gardening is something i never had to learn, i come from a family where my ancestors have been associated with farming.

I believe in organic food and hence to live a better life, i started growing my own food and flowers.

I started with hibiscus and now i have almost 200 plants.

Now the question that might just pop up in your head : "Do you have a big garden?" No, i don't, it's not too big, but good enough to grow my own veggies and flowers.

Gardening has helped me in many ways, my home is not just my home but shelter for many from birds to honeybees to caterpillars to pets (Yes, i do have a cute lil pup).

As soon i wake up, the first thing i do is open the window and feel the freshness in the air. It's an instant boost to my mood and in no time you will find me smiling. I thank them each day for giving me such heavenly fragrance.

Gardening is such a stress buster and since i have green fingers, it has given me an advantage to add more plants to my garden.

In my today's blog, i'd like to share one of the most interesting flower.

Passion flower /Passiflora /Krishna Kamala

In India, the blue passion flower is called Krishna kamala.
Fascinated with the flower color, unaware of the story behind the flower, bought this in 2012 (during Janmashtami).

While offering the vibrant blue flower to Lord Krishna along with the leaves, i happened to see it carefully.

There are apparently 100 blue petals - one each for the Kauravas, five of the green ones in the centre (the anthers) represents five Pandavas, the green bulb in the centre symbolises Draupadi, and the radical filaments are for Brahma Vishnu Mahesh.

The color blue is associated with Lord Krishna as the color of his aura.

This particular creeper is the centre of attraction for the visitors.

The story itself is so fascinating, you will definitely fall in love with the flower.

It comes in different colors :

Blue and purple Passion flower (i have both)
Blue crown passion flower (Passiflora caerulea) typically sports 3-inch mint-scented white blooms crowned by white, blue and purple filaments.

The Yellow passion flower  is often yellow but may also appear as green and even purple, blooms in the morning

All the colors along with white passion flower blooms between July and September.

For me, i love all flowers, but this has been my favourite.
